Why it works

Don’t polish the leaves.

Feed the soil.

Most of what gets sold for hair treats the strand. This treats the ground it comes out of, so the part stays soft, the ends stay conditioned, and length gets to hold on to what it’s grown.

  1. 01

    Feeds the scalp

Jojoba, olive and rosemary go on where it counts, the scalp, to soften flaking and soothe tightness between washes. Peppermint and menthol are why it tingles.

  2. 02

    Seals in moisture

Mango and cocoa butter form a breathable seal over the strand, so the water your hair drank on wash day is still there on day five.

  3. 03

    Guards against breakage

Slip where you need it. Ends stay conditioned and pliable, so combs glide instead of snagging and lengths hold on to what they've grown.

  4. 04

    Built for protective styles

Thick enough to grease a part, light enough not to build up. Works under braids, twists, locs and press without leaving a waxy film.

Seventeen oils and two butters.

The green isn’t a gimmick. It’s what happens when you build a grease around mango butter, jojoba and rosemary rather than filler.

Steps, every day

The whole commitment: four steps, every day.

The commitment

01

Part & apply

Section the hair. Lay a small amount along each part. Damp seals it in, dry works too.

02

Massage in

Work it in gently with the pads of your fingers. Small circles. This part matters most.

03

Smooth the lengths

Rub what's left between your palms and run it down the strand, ends and edges.

04

Style & repeat

Style as you like, then again tomorrow. A scalp answers to consistency, not intensity.

Questions

Good to know.

What does "Hair Fertilizer" actually mean?

It's the spirit of the thing: you feed soil to grow a garden, you feed the scalp to grow hair. MiMi Crack is a scalp-first conditioning grease: it moisturizes, soothes and protects the environment your hair grows out of. It is a cosmetic product, not a drug, and it isn't a treatment for hair loss.

Will it weigh my hair down?

Used as directed, a small amount worked scalp-first, no. It's a grease, so a heavy hand will feel heavy. Start with less than you think you need.

Is it safe for color-treated or relaxed hair?

Yes. It's a leave-in conditioning grease with no sulfates, peroxide or ammonia, so it won't lift or strip color.

Can I use it on my kids' hair?

It's commonly used on children's hair for greasing parts and braids. As with any new product, patch test first and keep it out of eyes.

Anything in it I should know about?

Two things people ask about: it contains lanolin, and it's fragranced, with peppermint and menthol that give the scalp a cool tingle. The full ingredient list is on this page, grouped. Read it first if you have a known allergy.

Is it alright to use every day?

That's how it's meant to be used: a small amount on the scalp daily, and down the lengths when they want it. A scalp answers to consistency rather than to intensity, so little and often beats a heavy hand on a Sunday.

When does it ship?

Orders go out once a week, packed by hand and handed to the carrier in the next run. You'll get a tracking number by email the moment the label is created, and the carrier's own estimate applies from there.
